Lipolysis and contouring injections

How it works

A substance that destabilises the fat-cell membrane is injected across many points in the subcutaneous layer. The damaged fat is absorbed gradually through an inflammatory response. Because nothing is physically removed and the body does the clearing, the change accumulates across sessions and varies widely between people.

Used for

• Fat in a small area such as under the chin
• Localised volume that does not warrant surgery
• Smoothing minor unevenness left after liposuction

Cautions

• Ingredients and approved uses differ by product — confirm what is being injected by name
• Swelling, bruising and tenderness for two to seven days are common
• This is not weight-loss treatment and is unsuited to large areas
• Where skin is thin or fat is scarce, it can leave hollows or irregularity

Aftercare

• Compress and cool the treated area for a day or two
• Keep important plans off the first three days, when swelling peaks
• Sessions are usually two to four weeks apart; do not judge after one
