How it works

Most fillers are hyaluronic acid, a substance the skin already contains. It settles into the tissue to create volume and is gradually absorbed by the body. Unlike most treatments, an unsatisfactory result can be dissolved with an enzyme.

Used for

  • Sunken areas such as nasolabial folds and under-eye hollows
  • Contouring the chin or nose bridge
  • Restoring cheek volume
  • Reshaping the lips

Cautions

  • Vascular occlusion is rare but an emergency — choose an experienced doctor
  • Postpone if the area has active acne or infection
  • Blood thinners and aspirin make bruising worse
  • Prefer absorbable products over permanent ones

Aftercare

  • Avoid sauna, hard exercise and alcohol for 48 hours
  • Do not rub or massage the area while it settles
  • Bruising and swelling usually settle within a week
  • Call the clinic immediately if pain worsens or the skin changes colour
