How it works

Ultrasound is focused to a point beneath the skin to create heat; the tissue contracts and builds collagen over the following months. The principle matches Ulthera, but the manufacturer and generation differ, and so does whether the depth is guided by ultrasound imaging. That is why two treatments both called "HIFU" can differ widely in result and price.

Used for

  • Early sagging along the jawline and cheeks
  • Wanting firmness without surgery
  • A schedule with almost no room for recovery

Cautions

  • There is a deep, bone-level ache during treatment, so numbing cream or an analgesic is used
  • The effect appears over two to three months, not immediately
  • With little subcutaneous fat, cheeks can end up looking hollow
  • Confirm the device, the shot count and the treatment depth by name at consultation — "HIFU" is not one product

Aftercare

  • Tenderness and a pressed feeling can linger for a few days
  • Avoid sauna and hard exercise for a week
  • Be more careful than usual with moisturiser and sun protection
