Thermage (radiofrequency)
Non-surgical tightening that heats the dermis with radiofrequency so collagen contracts and rebuilds.
- Treatment time
- 60–90 min
- Downtime
- 0–1 days
- How long it lasts
- 12–18 months
How it works
Radiofrequency current passes through the skin and generates heat in the dermis. The surface is cooled while the layer beneath is heated, so existing collagen contracts and new collagen forms over the following months. Where Ulthera lifts the deeper SMAS layer, Thermage works on the firmness of the dermis.
Used for
- Fine lines and slack skin texture
- Loss of firmness around the eyes and forehead
- Pores that look wide because the skin has loosened
Cautions
- It tightens; it does not lift tissue that has dropped
- Not possible with an implanted device such as a pacemaker
- Excessive intensity in one session can cause fat atrophy
Aftercare
- Redness and swelling on the day are normal and settle within 24 hours
- Avoid sauna and hot compresses for a week
- Moisturise well and protect from the sun
